Frequently Asked Questions

How do I schedule an appointment?

For information about availability or to schedule a new client appointment, please complete a New Client Inquiry form on the Contact Us page.

Do you accept insurance?

Carolina Counseling Psychology, LLC, recently made the decision to stop accepting health insurance. In other words, we became what is referred to as a “self-pay” or an “Out-of-Network (OON)” provider.

Why do we no longer accept health insurance? OON providers are able to make treatment decisions without the limitations imposed by third party payers. Decisions about the type and length of care a person receives can be individualized. Extended, more frequent, or intensive services can be offered.

As an OON provider, we can provide you with documentation to apply for reimbursement from your insurance company.

How much do you charge?

Rates:

  • Individual therapy- $150
  • Relationship counseling- $175
  • Initial appointment (clinical/diagnostic assessment)- $185

Payment:

  • Payment is required at the time of service. A credit card is kept on file for forgotten payments, missed appointments, and out-of-office appointments.

Cancellation Policy:

  • There is a fee for “unkept” appointments (if cancellations do not occur within 24 hrs.).

Do you prescribe medication?

No, we do not prescribe medication. We will work with your psychiatrist or other medical professional if you are taking medication. If you’re a current client or decide medication may be helpful, we can work with you to explore referral options.

What is a good faith estimate?

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.

You can ask your healthcare provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises or https://omb.report/icr/202109-0938-015/doc/original/115257801.pdf

Are you available after hours?

Therapists are available during business hours.

If you are experiencing a clinical emergency and need assistance, please call 911 or proceed to the nearest emergency room.

How can EMDR therapy help?

Experiencing trauma can block the brain’s natural way to recover from distressing events. The upsetting images, thoughts, beliefs, sensations, or feelings connected to an event may interfere with our ability to function successfully at work, school, play, or in relationships.

EMDR helps us process memories in a way that allows normal healing to resume. The experience is still remembered, but the “charge” is not there. The upsetting images, thoughts, beliefs, sensations, and/or feelings connected with the experience are gone.

EMDR vs. other therapies?

EMDR does not require talking in detail about a distressing issue or trauma. It is designed to activate the brain’s natural healing process through alternating eye movements, sounds, or taps. For many clients, EMDR therapy can be completed in fewer sessions than other psychotherapies.

Can EMDR be self-administered?

Providing EMDR therapy requires specialized training and an extended period of supervision and consultation. Therapists trained in EMDR are strongly encouraged to work towards certification, which requires additional education, consultation, and experience. EMDRIA, the International Organization for EMDR Therapy, does not condone or support indiscriminate uses of EMDR such as “do-it-yourself” virtual therapy.
